Capacity development

Food systems diversification is not only a solution to addressing nutritional and environmental challenges but also a powerful tool for community empowerment and inclusivity. By engaging in public outreach initiatives and celebrating local food systems, we create spaces for cultural diversity to thrive and for communities to take pride in their unique food traditions. Through our transdisciplinary Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTP) Programmes, we invest in training the next generation of research leaders who will drive innovation and positive change in our food systems. By empowering smallholder farmers through the development of underutilised crops and community seed systems, we not only enhance food security but also foster economic independence and biodiversity stewardship among farming communities.

Our DTP programmes serve as a cornerstone for developing a new generation of researchers and leaders equipped with transdisciplinary skills to navigate the complexities of our global food system. The programme are designed to develop independent, and employable researchers equiped with the right skill mix and competencies to transform food systems to deliver healthier, more sustainable, and equitable food for all. Through a transdisciplinary approach and a strong emphasis on translating research into actionable solutions, we empower students to carve out unique professional identities that blend disciplinary expertise with a holistic understanding of food systems challenges and opportunities.
